Tasting Notes: Upon wandering around Bethesda this week, I stumbled across a local bottle shop called Beer Wine & Co that featured a 10% discount on build-your-own 6-pack deal. They had a wide enough selection of beers I hadn’t tried to justify the inflated price-per-beer and I went for it. One that really sold me was seeing Deschutes classic Fresh Squeezed IPA. This beer, much like a number of Deschutes brews, is a great representative of style. The nose upon opening is a bright, crisp swath of Citra that gives way to a touch of pine. After pouring, a clean white head forms upon the surprisingly dark/amber body that holds up quite well throughout the beer. Impressively (for me, at least), this beer tastes heavily hopped without coming across as overly bitter. The blend of Citra, Mosaic, and Nugget hops all play quite nicely without being over-the-top and the malt backbone is strong enough to support the hopping and alcohol nicely. In a craft beer world crowded with IPAs, this is one worth tracking down and trying.
